Let It Shine...

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in all of us. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
-Maryanne Williamson
If you get nothing from this quote, remember this: We should let the light of Jesus Christ shine through us and use that to reach out to other people with that love.

Let Bygones Be Bygones...

"The Past:
It is history.
Make the present good and the past will take care of itself."

-Cheer, A book of Quotes
I often find myself thinking about mistakes I've made or things I could have done differently in the past. And once I get to thinking, I always end up feeling the same way: crappy. We all need to learn to just let the past go and live in the present.

Burst The Bubble...

"You must learn day by day, year by year, to broaden your horizon.

The more things you love, the more you are interested in, the more you enjoy, the more you are indignant about-- the  more you have left when anything happens."

-Ethel Barrymore
You can't have a life if you live in a bubble all the time and never try anything. True, sometimes we fail, but sometimes something we didn't think would succeed turns into something totally unexpected and wonderful. We all need to burst that bubble every now and then and just live.

Just Because...

"A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song."
-Anglund
Why does there always have to be an answer for everything? Why can't things just be? Maybe it's because we, or at least I know I, tend to overthink. Dance randomly simply because you feel like it. Dress up simply because you just want to look good. Make cheesy/corny jokes beause everyone knows deep down they really are funny. And I blog simply because it's a passion now. Do something.... just because.

Growing Up...

Martyrdom's Reward

Let my name stand among those who are willing to bear ridicule and reproach for the truth's sake, and so earn some right to rejoice when the victory is won.
-Louisa May Alcott
To me, this sounds exactly the way a martyer would want to be remembered. The quote speaks for itself and is something we should all have a chance to learn.

I Ain't No Junk...

"Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves."

-Philippians 2:3
This verse really made me think. Is the Jesus calling us to let people run all over us and have no self confidence? It's good to be humble, I completly agree with that. Humble acts or thoughts have a way of keeping us grounded. And there are some times that I do think others are better than me but I've learned through the years that I am a good person in my own way and there is no need to compare myself to others when God made me just the way I am. I've taken that saying "God don't make no junk" to heart. At the same time, being humble or going through events that humble us are what help keep us "thinking of others" and like I said before, keeps us grounded.

Friends First Then Love...

Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss,
and ends with a teardrop.

-Anonymous
It would all be fine and dandy if that's truly all there was to a true and honest love. Even at the ripe age of 18 I understand that it takes more than a smile and a kiss if you don't want it to end with a teardrop. It takes an actual friendship and an understanding of each other. That's another goal in my life, to marry my best friend. And I know he's out there somewhere. I'm just trying to patiently wait for he who does make me smile and wants to be best friends!

It's All In The Attitude...

-William James

It's Not Me, It's Life...

"It is not I who speaks, but Life within me who has much to say."
-Cheer, A Book of Quotes
If I could describe why I even bother to keep up with this blog, and not just because I have to do it for a class, this would be the perfect quote. If I could leave anything behind for future generations, it would be my life story. Not because I've had so many accomplishments or that I'm just the best thing that's ever happened to mankind, it's because I want others to learn from my mistakes or accomplishments to better themselves. I want to make a difference and have an impact on just one person, if only through my actions. So it is not what I say on this blog that really matters, it's everything I say is influenced from the life I live. And that is what I want to get out there.

Dream Big...

"Live the life you've always imagined"
-Plaque on my wall
We shouldn't let anything hold us back from the life we want to have. I encourage everyone to make a bucketlist of things you'd usually never do or things that you want to experience before you die. It really does make life that much more interesting. Don't just settle for the life you have, make something great out of it. Dream big.

Just That Simple...

"Life is just crazy... or is it that i'm thinkin too hard and it's just that simple..."
-Me, Caitlin Taylor
Sometimes I'm just too smart for my own good.... I'm just kidding, but I really did come up with this tonight. It's kind of a thought provoking quote. Life sometimes does seem crazy and overwhelming but is it because we let it? Or are we just thinking too much? I know for sure that I'm guilty of overthinking probably about 50 times a week. But sometimes I think (there I go thinking again) that I'm the cause of my own stressed out weeks and anxious thoughts. I have 5 tests this week, but so what? If I study for them I can handle it and enjoy life at the same time. Sometimes it really is that simple.

If Only...

"Real Leaders are ordinary people with extraordinatry determination."
-Cheer, A book of quotes
If only some of the leaders in our nation could be defined this way. I'm by far not a politicain nor am I a diehard certain party fan. But party's shouldn't matter; when it comes right down to it the people we elect should be because they were/are real people who really care and have worked for what they've accomplished. If only the politicans would read my blog...

Key to Happiness...

"Happiness depends on ourselves."
-Aristotle
The key to happines truly does depend on us. Events may happen to influence happiness but it is our choice on whether or not we want that to effect us. When my sisters and I are mad at each other, my grandmother has always said, that she didn't make you mad. You allowed yourself to get mad. If we allow ourselves to be unhappy we have no one to blame but ourselves.

Growing up...

“Growing up is never easy. You hold on to things that were. You wonder what's to come. But that night, I think we knew it was time to let go of what had been, and look ahead to what would be. Other days. New days. Days to come. The thing is, we didn't have to hate each other for getting older. We just had to forgive ourselves... for growing up.”
 -The Wonder Years quotes

Sweat...

"Both tears and sweat are salty and wet, but they render different results.
Tears will get you sympathy, but sweat will get you progress."
-Cheers, A book of quotes
There are two types of people in this world. Those who want things done for themselves and those who do things for themselves. And I think there's a huge difference between the two. I am sometimes accused of bein stubborn because I often do things for myself even if I do need help. It may be a good trait but at the same time I'm guilty of not asking for help when I need to. Both tears and sweat can be good each in their own way but sweat usually gets your further and keeps friends.

Sunshine On A Cloudy Day...

"Don't worry whether or not the sun will rise;
Be prepared to enjoy it."

-Cheers, A book of quotes
I love to find the positive in life. Why worry about what's going to happen or what might happen? Just enjoy what you've been given rain or shine. Sometimes thats the only way to get through things, to just find the sunshine in life.

Speak From The Heart...

"One of the hardest things in life is having words in your heart that you can't utter."
-James Earl Jones
I've lost count of how many times I've I'm growing up and I like to think maturing, I've realized that what I have to say truly is important even if it does hurt to speak from the heart. It's best to not leave things unsaid. Take a chance and just go for it! What's the worst that could happen?

How To Be A Winner...

The Winner--
   is always part of the answer;
The Loser--
   is always part of the problem;
The Winner--
   always has a program;
The Loser--
   always has an excuse;
The Winner--
says "Let me do it for you;"
The Loser--
   says "That's not my job;"
The Winner--
   sees an answer for every problem;
The Loser--
   sees a problem for every answer;
The Winner--
   sees a green near every sandtrap;
The Loser--
   sees two or three sand traps near every green;
The Winner--
says, "It may be difficult be it's possible;"
The Loser--
says, "It may be possible but it's too difficult."

BE A WINNER!

Lions and Tigers and Bears... Oh My!...

"It's not the lions and tigers that'll get you...
It's the Mosquitoes!"

-Spurgeon Richardson
This is indeed a funny little quote from Richardson but it does have a deeper meaning. Those "lions and tigers" as he calls them, are the big things in life that come up that we think we are never going to get through. And those darn Mosquitos are the little things that we let worry us in life. And it's sometimes all the mosquitoe bites that drive us to insantiy. We all need to learn to let things go and just not worry at all about the lions and tigers or the mosquitoes. Just let life happen and work itself out.

The Purpose Of Life...

"The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to matter, to be productive, to make some difference you lived at all."
-Leo Rosten
This quote pretty much summarizes why I bother to keep up a pretty much daily blog. Maybe something I've said or a quote I've posted will help someone else down the road. Even when I'm dead and buried this website will still be here because the Internet doesn't "forget" anything. But if I live my life just trying to make ends meet and think I've never accomplished anything; I will consider myself rich if I can touch just 1 life.

Faith Like A Child...

"The great man is he who doesn not lose his child's heart."
-Mencius
Sometimes the best faith to have is that of a child's. So simple and trusting, never quesitoning, just believing; and yet we as adults usually have an extremly hard time doing just that. But think of the difference that would make if sometimes we did thrive in the child we used to be and use that to simply believe in what is and is to come. Can life truly be that simple? Lets make it!

Failure First...

"One who fears failure limits his worth.
Failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently."
- Henry Ford
We are human; therefore, we are bound to fail. But it is how we survive or persevere through those failures that shows who we really are. What better man to make this statement then Henry Ford? Someone who invented cars for a living through trial by error; in order to make a car you have to know how not to make it. Mr. Ford was a very smart man who realized through his failures that in order to suceed you may have to fail first.

Great Minds...

"Great minds discuss ideas;
Average minds discuss events;
small minds discuss people."

-Eleanor Roosevelt
I randomly found this quote laying on my kitchen counter today and it's stuck with me. We should all strive to have "great minds" instead of the "small minds" Eleanor speaks of. Ponder on this quote and figure out what it means to you then try and apply it to your everday life. Hopefully you won't end up with a small mind...

Live For The Tomorrows...

“Nothing helps a bad mood like spreading it around.”
 -Bill Watterson
Some people may strongly agree with this quote. But, I however, strongly disagree. Everybody has bad days and bad moods but that doesn't mean you have to make everyone else around you miserable. Bad moods aren't fun so why should I or you want to wish that on our friends and family? As one of my previous quotes said, "All you've got is the future." So don't allow some smart elec comment or negative words to impact your mood. Just shake it off and live for the tomorrows.

Something To Look Forward To...

"All you got's the future."
-Horton Foote
Horton Foote was a play writer, script writer, in theatre and pretty much everything else. And according to Dr. Gerald Wood, who spoke in my Communications class taday, Foote wasn't a complainer either. Life happens but then you just have to pick yourself back up and carry on cause like he said, the future is all you've got to look forward to.

A Good Good Day...

"Look forward to each day for God has such great plans to prosper you and give you an Incredible Future!
-Unknown
Try to make every day a good day, even if that means you litterly have to make it a good day. You never know what God has in store for you.

Listen to the Music...

"If God is the DJ, then Life is the dance floor; Love is the rhythm, and You are the music."
-Unknown Author
Music can sometimes be the window into people's souls. You can pretty much tell what the songwriter is feeling just by looking at the lyrics. And music lyrics are kind of like these quotes, a lot of times I think 'hey when did they write that song about me?' or 'when did they quote me on that.' If you ever want to hear an inspiring story just listen to the music...

Stop and Smell the Roses...

“We tend to forget that happiness doesn't come as a result of getting something we don't have, but rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do have.”
 -Frederick Keonig
I watch my 8 year old sister get upset and pout for hours when she doesn't get her way; when she doesn't get what she wants. I watch my 13 year old sister try to fit in with the "big kids" and be mature yet still suscumb to selfishness every now and then. And I've learned at the age of 18 that life isn't always about me, me, me. That it's ok to stop worrying about what will help me or make me happy and just look around. Take it all in and realize how great I truly do have life. And how grateful I am for the people and love in my life. So try and take time to just stop and smell the roses...

You Are Winner...

"You're a winner. The tests of life are not meant to break you, but to make you."

-Norman Vincent Peale
I love to reiterate that we learn the best lessons from the mistakes we make in life or by the trial we face. But none of that is meant to break us it's meant to build us up into the person we become

I'm a Survivor...

"Colleges are places where pebbles are polished and diamonds are dimmed."
— R.S. Ingersoll
The test to see if you can survive life is if you can survive College. It's a place where those who think they know it all in high school quickly learn they know nothing. And it's also a place where the "losers" or unkown people in high school thrive, because in college is not about who has the most popular status it'w whether you can survive and come out ahead in the end.

Mr. Right...

“Watching you walk out of my life does not make me bitter or cynical about love. But rather makes me realize that if I wanted so much to be with the wrong person how beautiful it will be when the right one comes along.”

Give Your Burdens To Him...

"God tells us to burden him with whatever burdens us."
-Author Unknown
This quote applys directly to my life. I had just started to stress out this morning about all I have to get done this week and all the different places I have to be. And I said a little prayer to God to help me just make it through this week. Then lo and behold my Psychology class was cancelled and my exam moved to next monday. That means I have about 3 extra hours to do homework and one less exam to worry about. Sometimes I catch myself wondering if God really does listen when I pray to him. And today I didn't have to wonder at all. Never doubt how great our God is!

Smile On...

"Sometimes the cards we are dealt are not always fair. However you must keep smiling & moving on"
 - Tom Jackson
This is actually my motto and outlook on life. Why make everyone miserable by being in a terrible mood and ranting when you can just smile and move on. If things don't go my way I'll deal with it so that it only effects me; no one else should have to suffer. So, even when you're feeling down just try to smile through it. You never know whose life you're effecting.

A True Friend...

“A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.”

-Thinkexist.com
We should all surround ourselves with people that don't judge and turn their noses up at our past. People who can honestly expcept you for who you are now are the kind of people I like to call my friends. So thanks guys! : )

Trial and Error...

"It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to succeed."

-Theodore Roosevelt
Trial and error seems to be the way we make it through life. But it is learning how not to do things that helps us succeed in life. My dad has always told me that the best lessons he learned in life and matured from were the obstacles and trials he faced. All that has made him the wise man he is today. I myself have found that if I got lost driving somewhere at least twice then I can get there again because I've learned how NOT to get there. Life is all about the lessons and what we take from them.

And the quote comes from...

"You are in charge of your own attitude."
- UNC womens basketball coach, Sylvia Hatchell
This kind of goes along with the previous quote. You need to be the change you want to see. As Sylvia Hatchell said tonight, your attitude can change a simple 2 hour practice. How you act and treat others doesn't just effect you, it effects everyone. Let's all try to think of others ahead of ourselves.

Wednesday, September 29, 2010

Be the change you want to see...

"If you want your life to be a magnificent story, then begin by realizing that you are the author and everyday you have the opportunity to write a new page."
-Mark Houlahan
Your life is what you make it to be. If you've messed up and made mistakes, join the club. But with the start of each new day we have the choice to change what's already been written. As i've said before the past doesnt doesn't  define who your are, it makes you the person you are today. So if you want your life story to be different you can be the change you want to see.

Speaks for itself...

No thoughts are necessary on this quote. It speaks for itself...

Let The Little Fish Go...

"I know it's tough to let the first one go, but sometimes in life you have to let the little fish go so you can catch a bigger fish."
-Chris Taylor (aka my dad)
After going through a rough time letting what I thought was my first love go, my dad told me these words of wisdom. I still smile thinking back to that day and how it really helped me. There are two parts to this quote. One is that I will openly admit my dad is smarter than me. He has lived just a tad bit longer and has experienced so much more than I have in my short 18 years of living. He has learned from has past, mistakes and all, and it's made him the person he is today. The second part is that in order to move on with life we do have to let the little fish go. If we keep holding on to them and don't move on then where does that get us in life? Absolutely no where. My challenge is this: If you're struggling with something or someone and it's holding you back, just let it or them go. There are bigger fish in the sea.

Be a fighter...

"Give thanks for what you are now, and keep fighting for what you want to be tomorrow."
  ~Fernanda Miramontes-Landeros

I think another part of this quote should be to give thanks for your past. The past is what defines who you are, not what makes you. And once you can give thinks for what your've become, don't ever give up on life. How can you if you come so far in life, struggle through adversity and face trials. Fight for your future and give thanks for what you've been through that will make your future brighter...

A good cheese slappin...

"Would you get mad if I slapped you with cheese?"
-Caroline Taylor (a.k.a my sister)
My sister asked me this yesterday and it made my day; had me laughing for hours. In face i'm still laughing. Caroline, bless her heart sometimes thinks in "simple terms." But sometimes I think we should model ourselves after her quote. She couldn't understand why someone would be mad about her slapping them with cheese. We need to learn to just laugh things off in life. Sometimes laughter is better than getting mad or arguing. And as my grandmother always says.... 'you should pick which battles you want to fight...' So, let's try and have a little fun in life and not always be serious. Try slapping someone with cheese....

Love Affair with God...

"Let your religion be less of a theory and more of a love affair."
~G.K. Chesterton
I usually wouldn't put two religious quotes back to back, but I think both of these are really powerful. There's not really any commentary needed for this one. Just that we should all strive to have a "love affair" with Jesus Christ. If that's not a perfect love then I don't know what is.

I AM A CHRISTIAN...

"Don't tell me you are a Baptist, an Independent, a Presbyterian, a dissenter; Tell me you are a Christian, that is all I want."
- George Whitefield
Sometimes "church people" are the worst kind of people. Why can't we all just do as the song says, 'be one in the bond of love?' It shouldn't matter what denomination we are. All that matters is that you believe Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, love him with all your heart and look forward to that day when you can walk the streets of gold hand-in-hand with Jesus. It's as simple at that. Have the faith and trust of a young child. Don't get caught up in all the logistics of "church stuff." Be a Christian!

It's the little things...

"That best portion of a man’s life, his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love."
-William Wordsworth
This quote reminds me of the movie Pay It Forward. If you've never seen it then you should definatly go rent it. But the basic storyline is about a boy who risks everything including his life to show an act of kindness. And at the end of the movie his legacy lived on by people "paying it forward." Sometimes it's the little things in life that matter most. Holding the door for someone, giving a cheerful smile out or even a simple 'how are you today' could make his or her day so much better. We never know how impactive our actions can be. So take a second and do a little something for someone, it might even make yourself feel better. Pay it forward....

Please kick me in the teeth one more time....

"You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you."
~Walt Disney
I hate bad days. Since I am generally a happy-go-lucky person bad days are usually very rare for me. But I've found that when bad things happen they usually happen all at once, at least they do to me. But it's during those times when i'm at my lowest point wanting to break down and cry that I realize God may be trying to teach me something or give me a wake up call. So sometimes that kick in the teeth results in a nice brand new smile...

LOL...

"You grow up the day you have your first real laugh -- at yourself.”
- Ethel Barrymore
I figured I'd change up the tone I've been on and through out a kind of funny quote. Everyone needs to have a sense of humor or else you'll walk around getting your feelings hurt all the time! I truly think if you can laugh at yourself, which I have done many times, then you'll be able to handle life's blows with a little bit more ease.

But Why God???

"We have no right to ask when sorrow comes, "Why did this happen to me?" unless we ask the same question for every moment of happiness that comes our way."
~Author Unknown
It's kind of a harsh quote but at the same time true. Life happens. It's usually in the good times that we are more than willing to praise God but during the bad times, God is the last thing on our mind when he should be the first. I too am guilty of not "praising him in the storm" as the Casting Crowns song says. Through joy and pain we should strive to look to Jesus Christ to rejoice or help us through.

God's got your back...

What is a man benefited if he gains the whole world, yet loses or forfeits himself?
-Luke 9:25
If we try to only find happiness in worldly things, we will fail. Think a little deeper... who allowed those happy times? Who puts us through the bad times? I was once told that we are either just coming out of a "fire" or fixing to go into a "fire." But God doesn't put us through all that to punish us. He wants to make us stronger by learning to depend on him through the ups and downs. If we do indeed gain the whole world and lose not only ourselves but God,as well, can we even have true happiness? So when your lost or caught up in the world always remember that God's got your back no matter what! He takes the good, bad and the ugly and can turn it into something beautiful.

This ones for you ML...

" Letting go doesn't mean giving up... it means moving on. It is one of the hardest things a person can do. Starting at birth, we grasp on to anything we can get our hands on, and hold on as if we will cease to exist when we let go. We feel that letting go is giving up, quitting, and that as we all know is cowardly. But as we grow older we are forced to change our way of thinking. We are forced to realize that letting go means accepting things that cannot be. It means maturing and moving on, no matter how hard you have to fight yourself to do so."

History is old... Why in the world do I need this class?

If we are to go forward, we must go back and rediscover those precious values - that all reality hinges on moral foundations and that all reality has spiritual control.    -Martin Luther King, Jr.
I'm sure all of us, even me at times, have wondered why in the world am I even listening to this guy talk about the English moving over to the Americas, the French and Indian War and Vietnam? Don't most history professors look like they lived back in the day of one shot rifles and outhouses? Anyway, I ran across this quote by Dr. King. It is in essense very true; how can we go on with the future if we don't fully understand the past? We would either be doomed to repeat those mistakes or opt to change the future. America has gone from slavery to racial segregation to now with an African American president. My how the times have changed. Our foundations may have been morally and spiritually sound, they've certainly swayed at times, but we can be the change our future needs to see. And it all starts with maybe paying just a little bit more attention in that History class......

He loves me, he loves me not...

"One of the hardest things in life is watching the person you love, love someone else."

How true is this quote? Not only can this be related to secular relationships but to spiritual as well. I can't even begin to imagine what Jesus Christ must have felt as he was humiliated and dehumanized by the very people he loved the most but those people didn't love him back. That right there is definitely the ultimate sacrifice. So I like to think that when I feel down on my luck or feel depressed when some guy doesn't love me back, that lil ole' me can't begin to comprehend the true meaning of a love like that. But hopefully someday with God's help, I can.

Some people just say things better....

This is actually my second attempt at a blog but I think this one will be a whole lot more successful than the  other because I actually enjoy quotes. One simple quote can make someone's day. I like searching for ones that apply to what I'm going through in my life right now. It's true some people just say things better.
